More than 65% of all women color their hair. Therefore, tailored color care is crucial. Clients pay a premium for the color, as they wish to keep it as vibrant as possible, for as long as possible. With colored hair it is important to preserve the color molecules within the hair fiber, while simultaneously protecting the hair’s keratin structure for a healthy hair substance. Healthy hair will retain dyes better and the color lasts longer.

THE CAUSES FOR COLOR FADING INCLUDE

1. COPPER

Each time we wash our hair; tiny metals (copper specifically) from within the water can generate free radicals. This copper can be triggered via UV light – damaging the keratin protein of the hair. While coloring – through the oxidation process which damages the cuticle surface and reduces the hair color luminosity.

2. WATER

A large factor for loss of color freshness is water, not so much the shampoo. Hair is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs humidity from the environment. When we wash our hair, the hair will absorb a lot of water, the diameter of the hair increases, making the hair more weak and prone to damage and losing color molecules. This is why while washing we need to use color specific shampoo and treatments with specific ingredients to preserve the color in the hair as much as possible.

3. UV LIGHT

Another cause is the sun, specifically UV light which reacts directly with the hair and damages it. This and other damaging factors like chlorine, salt water, the use of heated tools and blow-drying contribute to inferior color retention. As a rule we can say, the healthier the hair is, the better the color lasts. Once the hair is more porous, color molecules are not as much anchored within the hair. This calls for a higher care profile which you will find in the Color Save Line.
